Kevin McGregor

Kevin McGregor, Major (Ret.) USAFR, was born in Chicago, IL in 1955. He moved to Denver, CO in 1957 where he was raised. He currently lives in Alaska.

As a kid, he was a newspaper delivery boy for the Denver Post. He attended John F. Kennedy High School, graduating in 1973. He then attended Arapahoe Community College from 1973-1975, graduating with an Associate degree in Law Enforcement and Administration. From 1975-1979 Kevin studied at Metropolitan State College and graduated with a BS degree in Law Enforcement and Administration, with a minor in Professional Pilot.

In 1974 he became a dispatcher for the Littleton, CO Police Dept. and worked there until 1977. He then moved on becoming a Federal Express Cargo Handler in Stapleton Int’l.

From 1978-1980 Kevin worked for Cimarron Recreation Flying Club as Manager and Flight Instructor at Arapahoe County Airport in CO. In 1979, Kevin assisted NTSB in a Cessna 172 crash belonging to the Club. The cause; pilot error.

In 1979 to 1980 he was a Co-Pilot for Rocky Mountain Intensive Air Care, Stapleton Intl., CO.

1980-1985: Active duty USAF, T-37 instructor, Asst. Safety Officer, Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TX

1985: Accident Board Recorder in a T-37 spin accident, Del Rio, TX

1985-1988: Active Duty USAF, C141 Aircraft Commander, Travis AFB, CA. Flew top secret clearance.

1988-1997: USAFCR C-141 Aircraft Commander, Travis AFB, Assistant Safety Officer, Travis AFB, CA

Kevin retired as a Major from the ASAFR in 1997.

1988 – Present: Delta Airlines B-727 Flight Engineer, L-1011 Flight Engineer, and presently is a 767 ER International Co-Pilot (based at JFK)

Kevin was part of the investigation of the legendary 1948 DC-4 crash in Alaska.

  • 1998; Re-studied glacier and debris site. Obtained NPS permit-4422 ID/retrieval
  • 1999; Confirmed and documented its existence
  • 2000; Flew in helicopter with NBC Dateline over site
  • 2003; Revisited the debris field, which is disappearing under the rocks as the glacier melts

Climbed 34 peaks over 14,000 feet in CO, 4 in CA
Mt. Rainier, WA twice
Mt. Olympus, WA
Popcatapetl in Mexico- 2 attempts
Kala Patar (just west of Everest) in 1986. 18,200 feet
Numerous expeditions to Mt. Sanford, AK
