Mark Casey

Journalist

Mark Casey is the nephew  of the SSGT William Kittiko, one of the airmen who perished aboard the B26 identified by UHE. He is writing a history of the event.

Mark retired from daily journalism after 45 years in a in a variety of reporting, editing, producing, and management positions. Most recently, he was News Director at ABC15 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Previously, Mark was Vice President/Station Manager of KPNX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix.   He joined KPNX-TV in May of 1999 as the News Director and became Vice President/News Director in 2007.

Casey began his career as a radio and television reporter and photographer for stations in IA and MN in the late 1970s before moving to the assignment desk at Cap Cities-owned WKBW-TV in Buffalo in the early 1980s. After leaving Buffalo, Mark joined COX Broadcasting where he spent 11 years at three stations as an Executive Producer and News Director. He rejoined Cap Cities, now Disney, in 1995 as News Director of WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, NC. Prior to moving to Phoenix, he was Vice President of News for what was then FOX-owned WBRC-TV in Birmingham, AL.

Casey shares credit with his teams for 40+ awards including a duPont Columbia Award the broadcast equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize and the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award  Others include Rocky Mountain Emmy Award for Station Excellence, multiple National Headliner Awards,  a national AP Award, and a national Investigative Reporters and Editors award. His advocacy for government transparency resulted in a First Amendment Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He considers all such recognition possible only through his association with exceptional and team-oriented journalists.

Casey earned a BSJ from West Virginia University and a Master of Public Administration from UNC Charlotte.
